A Turkish parent who wants to save for a child without interest has four halal routes in 2026. Participation bank children's accounts, such as Kuveyt Türk's Dijital Kâşif (from 50 TL a month, in lira, dollars, euros or gold) and Türkiye Finans's Akıllı Bıdık (250 TL minimum, five to ten year term, 15/85 lira profit split), hold savings in a profit-sharing pool. Emlak Katılım's Altın Çocuk Hesabı converts regular lira deposits into gram gold. A Konut Hesabı opened in the child's name earns a state contribution of up to 270,690 TL toward a first home. A child BES plan at Katılım Emeklilik adds 20 percent state contribution on up to 396,360 TL a year. The right mix depends on the time horizon and whether you want gold, lira or a house.

The four halal routes at a glance

All four routes avoid interest. The participation bank accounts pay a share of pool profit rather than a fixed rate; the gold account holds a commodity; the Konut Hesabı is a participation account with a state grant attached; and the BES plan invests in Katılım funds. Each is covered by a different regulator and a different set of rules, which is why the comparison below is by feature rather than by return. Our bank accounts hub carries current profit splits for adult accounts if you want to compare.

Kuveyt Türk Dijital Kâşif: the most flexible

Kuveyt Türk relaunched its children's banking as Dijital Kâşif. A parent opens a current account (cari hesap) and, if wanted, a participation account (katılma hesabı) for a child under 18 in the mobile app, the internet branch or a branch. The savings leg is a birikimli katılma hesabı with a monthly maturity and a standing order of at least 50 TL, 50 USD, 50 EUR or one gram of gold, so the same product can hold lira, foreign currency or gold. Children aged 15 to 18 can hold a current account in their own name with a card whose spending limit starts at 100 TL by default and can be adjusted by the parent.

The profit share on the children's participation account follows the bank's published grid for the chosen currency and maturity, and the stopaj (withholding tax) rules on participation account profit apply in the usual way. The attraction is that everything happens in the app and the parent can switch between lira and gold without a visit.

Türkiye Finans Akıllı Bıdık: the long-term lira pool

Türkiye Finans runs the Akıllı Bıdık Birikimli Katılma Hesabı for children aged 0 to 18. It is a term product: the account is opened for a minimum of five years and a maximum of ten, with 250 TL, USD or EUR to open and regular monthly or quarterly deposits of 50 or more, collected automatically from the parent's current account or Happy card. The bank states that lira accounts are valued in a 15/85 pool (15 percent to the bank, 85 percent to the account holder) and foreign currency accounts in a 35/65 pool.

The bank's own page says the account is opened at the nearest branch by the parent, and its guidance on under-18 customers confirms that minors cannot onboard digitally. The trade-off against Dijital Kâşif is clear: Akıllı Bıdık commits you to a multi-year term in exchange for a published, favourable pool share, and it does not hold gold.

Emlak Katılım Altın Çocuk Hesabı: saving in grams

Emlak Katılım offers the Altın Çocuk Hesabı for children under 18. The parent sets a regular or flexible forward order in lira, and on each date the bank buys gram gold into the child's gold account at its published price, with free storage and the option of physical delivery through the Kuyumcukent-based KAD-SİS system. After the parent's own onboarding, the account can be opened through all channels.

This is the only one of the four routes that is a pure commodity holding. There is no profit pool and no state contribution; the return is the gold price in lira. For a parent who wants a child's savings outside the lira entirely, it is the simplest instrument, and it pairs naturally with the fiqh view that gold is a sound store of value. Our guide on zakat on gold in Turkey covers how a growing gram balance is assessed.

Konut Hesabı in the child's name: the state pays toward a house

The Konut Hesabı (housing savings account) is a participation account with a state contribution attached, for savers who have never owned a home. Vakıf Katılım states on its product page that the account can be opened on behalf of a minor by a parent or guardian, that savings must run for at least three years, and that its Konut Hesabı pays a 95/5 profit split. The state contribution tiers published on the same page for 2026 are 15 percent for accounts held 36 to 47 months (maximum 234,598.07 TL), 18 percent for 48 to 59 months (252,644.07 TL) and 20 percent for 60 months or more (270,690.05 TL), payable when the savings are used to buy a first home.

For a child this is a very long horizon: the money is only usable toward a home purchase, so a Konut Hesabı opened at age five is a down payment fund, not a university fund. The state contribution is paid in addition to the pool profit, which makes it the highest-yielding of the four routes if the purpose matches. Ziraat Katılım and other participation banks run the same scheme under the same ministry rules.

Child BES: 20 percent state contribution in Katılım funds

Since the 2021 amendment to the pension law, a BES contract can be opened for a minor by a legal representative. Katılım Emeklilik markets this as Erken BES: contributions from 1,050 TL a month, no entry fee, and the 20 percent state contribution calculated separately for each child, which means a family with three children earns three separate state contributions. The pension monitoring centre's published rules for 2026 set the state contribution at 20 percent of contributions up to an annual contribution base of 396,360 TL, so the maximum state contribution per participant is 79,272 TL in the year.

The funds are Katılım funds screened to the TKBB standard, so the underlying holdings are participation-compliant. The disadvantage is liquidity: vesting of the state contribution follows the standard BES schedule, and withdrawing early forfeits part of it. For a child, that discipline is arguably the point. Our retirement hub and the guide on how to start a Katılım BES plan cover the mechanics.

Zakat on a child's savings

Parents ask whether zakat is due on a child's account once it passes the nisab. The Diyanet's Din İşleri Yüksek Kurulu sets out the two main positions. In the Hanafi school, which most of Turkey follows, zakat is not due on the wealth of a minor, with the exception of öşür on agricultural produce; the obligation begins at puberty. In the Shafi'i school, zakat is due on a minor's wealth and the guardian pays it from the child's property. The board also notes that zakat may not be given to a minor whose father is wealthy, because the child is deemed wealthy through the father.

The practical effect is that a Hanafi family holding a child's gold or participation account below or above nisab has no zakat obligation on that account until the child reaches maturity, while a Shafi'i family calculates and pays annually. Either way the parent's own zakat is unaffected by the child's balance, because the property belongs to the child. Our zakat hub covers nisab and the gold calculation.

Choosing between them

  • For flexibility and gold in one place: Kuveyt Türk Dijital Kâşif, opened in the app, from 50 TL or one gram a month.
  • For a published, favourable lira split and enforced discipline: Türkiye Finans Akıllı Bıdık, five to ten years, branch opening.
  • For saving outside the lira: Emlak Katılım Altın Çocuk Hesabı, regular lira orders converted to grams with free storage.
  • For a future down payment: a Konut Hesabı in the child's name, three years minimum, 15 to 20 percent state contribution up to 270,690 TL.
  • For the longest horizon with the biggest state top-up: Katılım Emeklilik Erken BES, 1,050 TL a month minimum, 20 percent state contribution up to 79,272 TL a year.
  • Many families combine two: a Konut Hesabı or BES for the long term and a Dijital Kâşif or gold account the child can see and learn from.

Verdict

There is no single best halal children's account in Turkey, because the four routes solve different problems. Kuveyt Türk's Dijital Kâşif is the most flexible and the only one that holds lira, foreign currency and gold in one app-opened account. Türkiye Finans's Akıllı Bıdık publishes the most generous lira pool share at 15/85 but locks savings for five to ten years and requires a branch. Emlak Katılım's Altın Çocuk Hesabı is the clean gold option. The two state-supported routes, a Konut Hesabı in the child's name and a Katılım Emeklilik Erken BES plan, carry the highest effective returns through the 15 to 20 percent housing contribution and the 20 percent pension contribution, at the price of long lock-ups. Hanafi families owe no zakat on a minor's savings; Shafi'i families pay annually. Frequently asked questions

Which participation banks offer children's savings accounts in Turkey?

Kuveyt Türk offers Dijital Kâşif current and participation accounts for under-18s, opened in the app, internet branch or branch, with standing orders from 50 TL, 50 USD, 50 EUR or one gram of gold. Türkiye Finans offers the Akıllı Bıdık Birikimli Katılma Hesabı for ages 0 to 18, opened at a branch, with a 250 TL minimum and a five to ten year term. Emlak Katılım offers the Altın Çocuk Hesabı, which converts lira deposits into gram gold. We did not find a dedicated children's product page at Albaraka Türk or Ziraat Katılım on 13 September 2026.

What profit share does a child's participation account earn?

It depends on the bank. Türkiye Finans publishes a 15/85 pool share for lira Akıllı Bıdık accounts and 35/65 for foreign currency, with 85 or 65 percent of pool profit going to the child. Kuveyt Türk's children's participation account follows the bank's published grid for the chosen currency and maturity. Profit is a share of the pool result, not a fixed rate, so it varies month to month. Withholding tax on participation account profit applies as for adult accounts.

Can I open a Konut Hesabı for my child and get the state contribution?

Yes. Vakıf Katılım's product page states that a parent or guardian can open a Konut Hesabı on behalf of a minor. Savings must run for at least three years, and the 2026 state contribution is 15 percent for 36 to 47 months (up to 234,598.07 TL), 18 percent for 48 to 59 months (up to 252,644.07 TL) and 20 percent for 60 months or more (up to 270,690.05 TL), paid when the savings go toward a first home. Vakıf Katılım pays a 95/5 profit split on the account.

How does a child BES plan work at Katılım Emeklilik?

A legal representative opens the contract for a child under 18 and pays contributions from 1,050 TL a month, with no entry fee. The state adds 20 percent of contributions, calculated separately for each child, up to the 2026 annual cap of 79,272 TL on 396,360 TL of contributions. The money is invested in Katılım pension funds screened to the TKBB standard. Vesting of the state contribution follows the standard BES schedule, so early withdrawal forfeits part of it.

Is zakat due on my child's savings account?

According to the Diyanet's Din İşleri Yüksek Kurulu, the Hanafi school does not impose zakat on a minor's wealth other than öşür on agricultural produce, so a Hanafi family owes nothing on a child's gold or participation balance until the child reaches puberty. The Shafi'i school requires zakat on a minor's wealth, paid by the guardian from the child's property. The child's balance is not added to the parent's own zakat calculation because it belongs to the child.

Is a gold account or a lira participation account better for a child?

They answer different worries. A gold account at Emlak Katılım or a gold-denominated Dijital Kâşif account at Kuveyt Türk protects against lira depreciation and holds a commodity most scholars regard as a sound store of value, but it earns no pool profit. A lira participation account such as Akıllı Bıdık earns a published share of pool profit and benefits if lira profit rates exceed the gold price rise. Many families split between the two and add a Konut Hesabı or BES for the state contribution.
